Can’t Steal My Joy

We always hear, “don’t let anyone steal your joy” or “no one can take your joy away from you” but what does that truly mean? Could it represent a relationship that went bad that led to depression? Maybe its the nightmare of waking up to a job that you hate and bringing that misery home with you every day. Possibility an injury that keeps you from pursuing what you love or lacking the money to do what you need to do.  But no matter what the circumstance may be our joy can be unexpectedly ripped from us, if we allow it. When our joy is ripped from us it can have us feeling hopeless because we don’t understand how we lost or it how we can get it back.

“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”

Proverbs 4:23 ESV

Definition of vigilance- The action or state of keeping careful watch for possible danger or difficulties.

I thought it was important to know the definition of vigilance so we can understand the importance of it within the scripture. Our heart produces joy and everything that gives our life meaning but it is the very thing that we give away freely. Our job shouldn’t have our heart, money shouldn’t be what makes us happy, another person shouldn’t be the source of our joy, and our body is our temple but not the transportation device to Heaven, our soul is.

Therefore, the enemy cannot steal anything that is not within his reach. No one can take anything that they don’t have access to. It’s impossible.

We must guard ourselves with the armor of the Lord. As believers, we tend to have the misconception that we should pour our heart into everything and everyone but that is simply not true! The Lord teaches us to love but gives us boundaries because he knows the troubles of the world. He knows how vital the heart is and the damage that can become of it when not protected.

Everyone isn’t meant to be in your circle and that’s okay. Work and home life are separate domains. But most of all seek the Lord for the source of your completion and happiness. Therefore your joy will never be up for grabs!  ❤

John 15:11

I have told you this so that my joy be in you and that your joy may be complete.

Yes I agree that the enemy can’t steal anything that isn’t accessible. I would find myself saying I won’t allow them to steal my joy but they weren’t stealing it, but me lacking in my faith. I know now to sit back once I’ve done my work and allow God to take the wheel💪🏾
