In the theme of March Madness this month with this series I wanted to talk about turnovers. In basketball, a turnover is when a team loses possession of the ball to the opposing team. The turnover can be a result of a number of things like throwing the ball out of bounds, the ball being stolen, traveling, or an illegal screen just to name a few. With a turnover, it has to do with position, timing, player’s vision in the game, and decisions. I realized in order to be in the best position for a victory you need to know the rules of the game. Understanding the game will equip you to play within the boundaries that have been established for you. The player is an asset and has the advantage. You also need to be knowledgeable about your position as a player. A good player understands no matter where you are in your skills there is always room for improvement. In the kingdom of God as a Believer, we have authority, dominion, and power to tread on the enemy’s head. We have been equipped to be a light in a dark world.
Decision making in our lives is often times influenced by our position and timing. It is important that we have clarity and instructions by being guided by the Holy Spirit in everything that we do. We have the homecourt advantage because we have been setup to Win and that is an upset for the Enemy. The truth is we are victorious because the battle is already Won. However, He knows that we are imperfect and we will still make decisions that are a “hot mess”. I’ve learned that in my walk with the Lord to put Him at the forefront of ALL my decision making. The major and minor decisions are all intertwined. His desire for us is to stay in His PERFECT will and we can be successful in that by giving Him the wheel. The gift of doing this is peace and Divine direction. You make the Lord an afterthought when you decide without HIM because you think if this doesn’t work,”Jesus can fix it.” You are absolutely right He can, but that mindset is out of order. The weight of your decisions will not only impact you but those connected to you. God’s design was not put in place for us to be like,” a ship without a sail. God is the Captain of our Soul and we are going to our place of destiny with a Purpose on purpose!
Will we always feel or look like we are winning? The answer to that is no because what you see and how you feel is not reliable. Even when we are playing by the book(Bible) will there still be unforeseen challenges? Yes, it will be and you can be certain of that. It won’t always be the Enemy trying to undermine and cheat you out of what is rightfully yours. Sometimes we get in our own way. Even when God has given information and revelation our heart desires steer us wrong. Disobedience (rebellion), moving slowly, and not seeking His face gives place for a turnover. The comeback from this is staying in the word by reading and studying it. The Bible is your playbook and it is where you are affirmed, powercharged, and spiritually nourished. It is where you learn how to live, behave, and operate in a Kingdom mindset. Get in the book if you really want to hear His voice.
My prayer is that we step aside and let God continue to be a Waymaker. Lord give us the mind, heart, and spirit to be receptive and obedient to your instruction with urgency. Sharpen our discernment to know the difference between good and evil. To recognize who is in our space to help or hinder. Stay in position and be ready for the play. No more excuses just expectations that we will win! We have Home team advantage!
“If any of you lack wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault and it will be given to you.”(James 1:5 NLT)
